The data collection for the assessment is divided into three phases;

• Scoping

• Full Assessment

• Final Consultation

The initial step is for a Remote Sensing expert to produce a land cover map from satellite images.  Then biodiversity experts collect data about the natural areas as well as social experts collect data from the local communities.

The requirements of the assessments are increasing all the time with the HCVRN constantly producing new guidances.
